What will you be doing?
- Managing day-to-day operations of the pastry section of the kitchen and liaising with the Pastry Chef to ensure a successful working environment
- Preparing doughs, fillings, batters, icings and other components by measuring or weighing ingredients using containers or scales to ensure consistency and high-quality baked goods
- Preparing a wide variety of baked goods, including pastries by following traditional and modern recipes
- Monitoring the stock of baking ingredients
- Ordering new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for baking
Requirements:
Basic Culinary Knowledge: While a formal culinary education is not always required, having a basic understanding of pastry techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations is beneficial.
Passion for Pastry: A genuine interest and passion for working with pastry and desserts is essential. A desire to learn and develop pastry skills is important for success in this role.
Attention to Detail: Pastry work often requires precision and attention to detail. Commis (Pastry) should be able to follow recipes accurately and create visually appealing and consistent products.
Creativity: While entry-level, having a creative mindset is a plus. Commis (Pastry) may be asked to contribute ideas for new dessert items or variations on existing recipes.
Independent Worker: Able to work independently and manage their time and tasks efficiently. Able to prioritise their workload, set realistic deadlines, and break projects into manageable steps.
