This is an exciting role for doctors who are looking to take a break from formal training, the basis of this role will be covering the Surgical Assessment Unit, with the option to be allocated into theatres to support.
The successful applicant will join an established 1 in 8 oncall rota, the oncall is comprised currently of an onsite element during the day and a non resident element overnight. This is subject to change.
1. Registrars provide day to day care for inpatients under the supervision of their consultant and will perform / assist in operations as appropriate to their level of experience and the complexity of the case.
2. On-call duty is in General Surgery and is a 1:8 non-resident 24 hour on-call rota with prospective cover.
3. All appointees share in the teaching of medical students & junior doctors.
4. Participation is encouraged in any current research & audits.
5. Administrative involvement may include specialty meetings, case summaries etc. Weekly meetings in General Surgery are held for Morbidity & Mortality and Multidisciplinary team meetings. Attendance is encouraged at all Tutorials and Postgraduate Education within the Hospital.
6. Duties lie mainly within the Royal Hampshire County Hospital; Outpatient Clinics and endoscopy are also attended in Andover.
7. The post holder will perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant in consultation where practicable with his colleagues both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the Professions and the Department of Health that while Doctors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional and in particular that Doctors in training should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
