Director, Business Development

This teammate will need be accountable for a portfolio across Northern California to Alaska.

Our Business Development “Team Pegasus” partners with Operations and other teams to build and execute growth plans in assigned geographic markets and in addition, identifies and develops strategic growth opportunities for innovative relationships and leads successful expansion of existing relationship. As the Director, Business Development you will direct strategic new business and ensures existing and incremental priority hospital, health system and accountable provider relationships are maintained. In this role, you work with Health Systems, Hospitals, and Accountable Care Organizations in collaboration with DaVita internal teams, to develop Value-Based Care and core kidney care relationships. This role, reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Development, is based remotely but the ideal candidate is based within proximity of the market comprised in Northern California.  Additionally, requires >30-50% of time externally with partners and internal team meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Development – serve as regional development executive within a $1+B operating group. Lead initiatives that drive long-term growth as part of division senior leadership team and Develop lines of business that enhance DaVita’s service offerings.
• Strategy – partner with Hospital division leadership team to analyze market trends and identify opportunities/threats. Develop plans for division to achieve Company’s objectives related to revenue, EBITDA, capital, presence, and other key measures.
• Transactions – source, develop, and negotiate complex renal partnerships with Hospitals, Systems, and Accountable Providers. Examples include Medical Director Agreements, Purchase Agreements, Operating Agreements, Hospital Services Agreements, and Value-Based Care Agreements.
• Collaboration – lead cross-functional virtual teams. Develop strong relationships with external and internal customers. Teams and resources may include Operations, Strategy, Finance, M&A, Legal, Hospital Services, Payor Contracts, Integrated Care, other.
• Partner Relationships – develop, manage, and/or track executive relationships with Hospitals, Systems, Accountable Providers and related stakeholders including, but not limited to employed Physician practices, assist with DaVita’s partner selection process for strategic opportunities.
• Value-Based Care – assist teams responsible for negotiating and implementing Value-Based Care agreements with the government and commercial Payors.  Build local relationships, assess Payor integrated care readiness, and qualify fit with DaVita.
• Deliverables – manage key deliverables. Prepare and deliver executive presentations to senior leadership teams within Company and at external partners.
• Reporting – update Salesforce.com and other internal tools. Provide timely status on accounts, opportunities and other growth initiatives within division.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education. Bachelor's degree required, MBA, MPH or relevant graduate degree preferred
• Healthcare Experience. Significant work experience in the healthcare industry with a Health System, Payor or provider; knowledge of industry dynamics (e.g., cost, quality, reimbursement, physician practice management, and risk-sharing).
  • Experience in development of new medical facilities, physician practice management, or ambulatory surgical center development preferred.
  • If no Payor or provider experience, then other relevant experience (e.g., management consulting, private equity, investment banking, and pharmaceutical/device).
• Development Experience. 5+ years of transaction experience in Corporate Development (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, other partnerships). Significant experience in influential leading teams to execute all aspects of transactions including planning, analysis, proposal development, negotiation, execution, and integration.   
• Strategy & Planning. Demonstrated experience analyzing markets, partners, and competitors to develop 3-5-year growth strategies and plans. Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor. Collaborate closely with Operations and Strategy to prioritize and maintain focus on highest-value opportunities.

What will you do at Ciena?

We’re looking for a highly motivated individual based in North America, who will contribute to the business success of Ciena’s Broadband and Routing Portfolio.   As part of the broader Broadband and Routing Portfolio PLM Organization, this role will lead and build a newly formed team tasked with ensuring customer IP solution deployments are designed and executed successfully. Drawing on a tight coupling with the broader IP Software/Platform PLM organization as well as close engagement with a wide range of internal teams (e.g. Sales, Services Delivery, Customer Support, Solutions Engineering) the successful candidate will lead overall Project Delivery teams for specific customer deployments.

The position will primarily focus on supporting our value-based care strategy, delivered through our Integrated Kidney Care (IKC) operations. IKC’s goal is to deliver the best clinical care for patients in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) managed through value-based care arrangements with payors and through Medicare Comprehensive Kidney Care Contracting (CKCC) innovation model. As the scale and scope our IKC broadens, the complexity of the opportunities and challenges impacting our operating model grows. 

Types of projects will include:

• New growth and innovation opportunities for IKC, including approaches to new payment models and opportunities to enhance clinical and economic alignment with provider network strategy
• Care model transformation, including opportunities to identify and build new enterprise partnerships that enhance our care management capabilities
• Developing and launching new initiatives (internal start-ups) that further strengthen our operating model

The Director of Corporate Strategy role is a leadership position within the team.  The individual will bring a strategic lens to how we can grow and transform our IKC business in light of these dynamics. This will be a highly visible role, (1) working closely with executive leadership and (2) managing a team of analysts and business partners to make critical strategic decisions across a variety of topics.
 

Qualifications: 

We are looking for an experienced candidate with a minimum of 5-7 years of work experience, preferably in consulting, healthcare strategy or operations role in an analytical environment.  A candidate with an MBA or advanced degree is preferred, but not required.   We also have a preference for candidates with a background in healthcare and specifically value-based care.

• Outstanding conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to develop credibility quickly and build successful relationships

Job Description

Is responsible for effectively managing the financial, service, and quality goals of maternal child health services.  Establishes annual goals for areas of responsibility that support the strategic plan.  Identifies business opportunities for providing new services or enhancing existing services.  Coordinates with the clinical managers to develop and manage the capital and operating budgets for areas of responsibility.  Works closely with CNO to develop an effective recruitment and retention plan to ensure the staffing requirements are managed effectively.  Collaborates with physicians, clinical managers and other members of the health care team to promote highly reliable and excellent quality and service outcomes. Understands and supports the professional practice of nursing.

Qualifications

Master's in Nursing or related field required.

Five (5) years progressive management experience and ability to demonstrate competency in management skills.

Five (5) years general clinical experience in specialty area.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Current and valid CA Registered Nurse license - California Board of Registered Nursing

Salary Range:

93.10 - 139.65 USD Hourly
