East Dunbartonshire lies to the North of Glasgow, and is a strategically significant location for economic, social, and environmental development, lying between the city and the gateway to Highlands through the West Highland Way. Incorporating parts of the Kelvin Valley, Campsie Hills and Forth & Clyde Canal, it is a flourishing area, with a balanced mix of urban and rural areas, high performing schools and some of the lowest unemployment rates in Scotland. A confused.com survey published in February 2023 found East Dunbartonshire to be the safest places to live in the UK with low levels of crime, and life expectancy rates are significantly higher than the national average.
A large part of the success of the area is due to the ambition and forward-thinking approach of the Council. Here, a customer-focused culture of continuous improvement and partnership working has resulted in recognition for its achievements along with educational and environmental successes. As the new Chief Executive, you will be tasked with building on this excellent track record by driving forward service improvement and continuing to deliver the very best services to our diverse communities.
This role is the chance to build on widely recognised good performance and champion a positive and progressive organisational culture, as the Council aims to deliver effective and efficient public services in the current financial climate. Providing inspirational leadership and strategic direction across the organisation – you will work with Elected Members and an established leadership team to deliver our Local Outcome Improvement Plan with partner organisations to benefit the people and communities of East Dunbartonshire.
With extensive experience in strategic management within a local authority environment, you will have impressive influencing skills, credibility and political awareness to drive our agenda for change and achieve performance excellence.
Further information on the Council, its priorities, policies and performance are available on the Performance page of the Council’s website.
For an informal discussion about the role and the organisation, please contact Maggie Hendrie, PA to Gerry Cornes, Chief Executive at maggie.hendrie@eastdunbarton.gov.uk. to arrange a suitable time.
