Practicing at a Highly Advanced level in a specialism within the directorate, our directorate lead role balances leadership and clinical practice to deliver compassionate excellence. Reporting to the Divisional Lead Pharmacist, they maintain a key relationship between their clinical directorate and the pharmacy directorate to ensure good medicine management and the delivery of patient focussed medicines optimisation. The Directorate Lead Pharmacists act as role models in terms of Trust values and behaviours as well as clinical expertise. The post-holder will lead, develop, deliver, evaluate and be responsible for delivering a comprehensive pharmacy service and medicines optimisation advice to the directorate. The T&O directorate includes Trauma (JR site), Orthopaedics (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre - NOC site) and Rheumatology (NOC site) and the role includes line management an expanding team of pharmacists responsible for day to day clinical cover for these areas. The postholder will provide operational oversight to pharmacy services on the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre site, and across the T&O directorate as a whole. The post holders role within these specialities includes to: 1. Work collaboratively with the highly advanced pharmacist for rheumatology to optimise service within available resource. 2. As the Programme Director for the UEC Recovery Plan, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team responsible for the leadership, planning and overseeing delivery of the UEC Recovery Plan, working collaboratively with DHSC and wider Government, and NHS stakeholders across strategy, transformation, operations, and performance teams.

The post holder will be expected to manage very senior internal, external, and political stakeholders, giving confidence on both the programme’s successes and resolution of risks and issues. They will work closely with other directors and their teams, developing powerful and sustainable relationships with key stakeholders. They will motivate, support, and offer challenge on delivery, supporting managers and staff across NHS England when required.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Be accountable for appointing, coordinating and supporting the work of RRDN Specialty and Settings Leads. The Medical Health & Care Research Director to support the Specialty Leads and the NMAHP Health & Care Research Director to support the Settings Leads Facilitating and promoting cross-specialty and cross-setting collaborations Developing and maintaining positive and constructive relationships with health and care leaders to ensure capacity and capability of the professional research workforce Ensuring expert advice is provided to RDN leaders and their teams, along with RDN stakeholders regarding study design and delivery to optimise deliverability and assist in the identification of sites and Principal Investigators Providing expert advice to the research delivery workforce regarding study delivery Responsible for working with health and care professional leaders to support the workforce development of research delivery leadership and associated staff including clinical and non-clinical staff Working closely with the Regional Research Leadership Office to develop complementary activities regarding strategic workforce development BUSINESS PLANNING Be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of a 3-year RRDN Strategic Implementation Plan in line with the RDN strategic aims and national 3-year plan. Strategy To develop and delivery relevant strategies and provide medical leadership across the whole organisation, with responsibility for clinical input and oversight. Provide direction to the Head of Clinical Department to ensure the department runs smoothly. To be part of the Senior Management Team and contribute to the development and implementation of Badgers Vision, Strategy and Business Objectives. Help develop strategic, clinical, and operational relationships with managerial and clinical leaders within key partner organisations. To work with the Head of Quality & Performance to develop Badgers Quality Strategy, ensuring that it supports the delivery of the wider organisational Strategy providing leadership to the Manager of Clinical Department ensuring that it is understood by medical and clinical colleagues as well as system leaders, commissioners, and partners. To scan the horizon for opportunities which will benefit clinical delivery of services, immediately, or the future, using strong networks and partnership working to identify such opportunities as well as influence at an ICS, regional and national level. External/Internal Partnerships Working with the Manager of Clinical, Head of Technology & Head of Business Development you will identify new health business opportunities, which build on the strengths of the organisation, converting them to generate income, internal investment and integrating them into the organisation, as appropriate; To participate in regional and national groups relating to the provision of Out of Hours and Urgent Care e.g. UHUK; Importantly, working with the Chief Executive as well as Badgers Associate Medical Directors/membership, build relationships with ICS Medical Directors and Chief Medical Officers. To work with the Chief Executive in the management of all internal and external messages, communications and media issues. Leadership To maintain effective medical leadership, provide clinical training, set standards and role model tri-partite leadership, providing medical input, development and support to Associate Medical Directors, Clinical Leads and all clinicians across Badger, maximising the effectiveness of the clinical, medical, and operational leadership structure. To provide highly visible, supportive leadership to Badgers workforce, role modelling Badgers SERQ values of Safety, Efficiency, Respect and Quality ensuring excellence across the organisation. To line manage the Manager of the Clinical Department on clinical engagement and management and provide the Chief Executive and Board with advice and guidance on matters related to clinical engagement and retention. To provide input to the Badger Training Academy and ensure the development of clinical skills across registered and non-registered clinical roles, offering the possibility of professional development and progression. To undertake the role of Chief Clinical Information Officer by working closely with the Manager of the Clinical Department, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Performance & Quality and Chief Executive, using technology and informatics to transform the delivery of clinical practice, for the benefit of our patients. To support the Manager of the Clinical Department and Head of Performance & Quality in ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance are set and maintained across the organisation, ensuring that clinical governance systems and processes meet regulatory standards, reflect best practice, and demonstrate learning from serious incidents and audits. To work with the Director of Workforce and the Manager of the Clinical Department to develop effective recruitment and retention strategies for clinicians and for the extension of clinical roles, to ensure an effective, engaged, and sustainable workforce both now, and in the future. To work closely with sessional clinicians to identify efficient working practices and activity monitoring to ensure clinical staff work efficiently and provide good value for money to Badger and the wider health economy. Clinical Governance To work with the Head of Performance & Quality and Manager of the Clinical Department to provide advice and guidance to the Board on quality and safety issues, providing expertise and a medical lens on a range of quality improvement, quality assurance and safety issues pertinent to Badgers services. To work with the Director of Workforce, Head of Performance & Quality and Manager of Clinical Department to provide advice and guidance to the Board on a range of medical management issues, pertinent to Badgers services. To work with the Manager of the Clinical Department, Head of Performance & Quality and Associate Medical Directors to ensure that Badger has robust, effective clinical governance systems to support our salaried and sessional clinicians through appraisal and revalidation, and that they participate appropriately. To provide effective leadership and assurance on clinical audit and professional standards. To work with the Head of Performance & Quality, Manager of Clinical Department and Associate Medical Directors to provide medical insight and make recommendations to the Board on external advice, guidance, requirements, and legislation including recommendations from regulators and advisory bodies such as NICE, DHSC and GMC publications, as well as national inquiries and external investigations. To act as Badgers Caldicott Guardian. You should have a good working understanding of information governance requirements.
